Last weekend I took part in my first BAL of the season with my new higher claim club Bournemouth. We were competing at Kingsmeadow in Kingston upon Thames, and the weather wasn’t too bad this time of year. I was down to compete in, Pole Vault, Hurdles, Shot and the 4x400m.
My First event was pole vault. I feel so much more confident in terms of my run up, its just about the application of the whole jump that is starting to take a bit of time to pick up but it will definitely get there. I managed to jump a PB which you can never complain with so very happy with that considering I am still only off 8 strides and on a very small pole.
Next came the hurdles where the week prior I had an absolute stinker so anything was going to be an improvement, “I hope”. It was a massive improvement I had a great start and I managed to run a massive PB even with the person next to me hitting my right arm at pretty much every hurdle after the third. Something I’m going to have to figure out how I can overcome.
My penultimate event was shot putt, which I have been very mixed in over the last few weeks with a PB a few weeks ago and then throwing way below it at my next event and then throwing close to it last time out. This was a very bad day at the office for shot but we move on. Plenty of room for improvement.
The final event was 4x400m which I was actually looking forward to as this was to be my lactic session for the week, which it definitely was! As you can tell by my face in the image below. I ran a very hard first 200 and boy did I feel it, maybe I tensed up a bit as well which didn’t help. I ran a pretty decent split of around 51-52 so very pleased with that. All in all, a good weekend and another comp in the bank. Now to prepare for nationals at the end of the month.
